Call for Application: ASEAN in Today's World (AsTW) Program 2020

Kyushu University and the University of Malaya will host the 12th ASEAN in Today's World (AsTW) Program 2020.

AsTW is a two-week study program at the undergraduate level, designed to deepen understandings of ASEAN and East Asian affairs. Since 2009, the Kyushu University has organized the program with our partner universities in ASEAN countries, in cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat and - the ASEAN University Network (AUN).

In 2020, AsTW will be held from 22 February to 5 March 2020 at University of Malaya.  Applicants from ASEAN countries and the rest of the world are welcome. The medium of instruction is English.

The program consists of two study areas which are the ASEAN Studies (AS) and the Asian Languages & Culture (ALC).  This program also incorporates a series of study excursions that give unique experiential learning to participants to learn more about multi-culturalism of Malaysia through cultural immersion activities.

Eligibility:

Applicant must be registered undergraduate (preferably) or a graduate student at home institution and fulfill the following criteria.

  • Over 18 years old;
  • Possess good academic standing (has the equivalent of a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 or a B or a 7.5 out of 10);
  • Fluent in English language for academic purposes;
  • Will continue study at home university after completing the AsTW program

  • AsTW 2020 Application Form*;
  • An essay - “Why i want to join AsTW?” (800-1000 words);
  • An official academic transcript of undergraduate study;
  • A university or college diploma copy (for graduates only);
  • A letter of recommendation (written by any academic staff member of home university other than a language instructor);
  • An official document, which shows proof of enrolment, issued by home university;
  • A Certificate of Health*; and
  • A copy of an official English language test score (either TOEFL IBT-60 / CBT-173 / PBT-500 or IELTS (Academic) - Band 5.0 or PTE-41 or equivalent. Students without any official test score required to provide verification letter from home university as proof of the language proficiency)

Program fee:

  • JPY 159,200 (approximately USD 1,400 – 1,500)
  • The Kyushu University also provides scholarships for the selected participants mainly from ASEAN countries

National Chiao Tung University 2020 Spring Inbound Exchange Program

National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) was originally founded in Shanghai in 1896 under the name of Nanyang College, and it shares the same origin as the Jiaotong Universities in mainland China. In 1958, NCTU was re-established in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The University has been the forerunner of science and technology. Subsequently, it has laid a firm foundation for the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP), the “Silicon Valley” of Taiwan.

NCTU is situated at the core of Taiwan’s high-tech industry, i.e., Hsinchu Science Park, making it an optimal hub of technological practices and academic exchanges for NCTU students. Moreover, NCTU has a distinguished alumni network, and nearly two-thirds of the CEOs and general managers in the Park are NCTU alumni.

Eligibility

  • At least be a third semester student of UNAIR
  • Have a minimum 3,00 GPA
  • Have minimum score 500/6.0 (TOEFL/ELPT/IELTS)
  • Commit to all aspects of the program upon the nomination
  • Be physically and emotionally capable of completing the programs both in the host university and the home university

2019 AEARU Innovation & Entrepreneurship Winter Program @ NTU X NCTU

 

The Program is a one-week intensive program co-costed by National Taiwan University (NTU) and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU).

  • Program Duration: 2019/12/29 – 2020/01/04
  • Eligibility: Current students(undergraduate, postgraduate students) from domestic/international universities
  • Venue: National Taiwan University (NTU) & National Chiao Tung University (NCTU)
  • Application Period: 2019/09/01-2019/10/30
  • GPA or English Proficiency Test: None; however, since all courses are conducted in English, students whose first language is not English should have at least an intermediate proficiency of the English language (equivalent to TOEIC 600 or above).
  • Application Procedure:

NCHU 2020 Spring Semester Exchange Programs

The student exchange program from National Chung Hsing University is designed to facilitate international cooperation and exchange with partner institutions of NCHU. There are two programs as follows :

  • Program for Academic Exchange (PAX)
    This program offers incoming exchange students diverse courses taught in Chinese or English in the Colleges of Liberal Arts, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Veterinary Medicine, Management, Law and Politics, Life Sciences, and Science.
  • Lab Exchange
    This program offers incoming exchange students the opportunity to do research under the professors’ instruction. Research related to many fields of study are also offered. Each student will be assigned a mentor professor for consultation during his/her stay at NCHU. Students who are interested in learning more about Taiwan to join PAX/Lab Exchange are welcomed and expected to share their culture.

 Eligibility

  • Undergradute or graduate student at UNAIR;
  • Completed at least one year of full-time study at one of NCHU's partner universities;
  • Nominated by the International Office of home university;
  • Achieved a minimum of CGPA 3.00 (out of 4.00);
  • English proficiency of IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 500 or equivalent.

Program Benefits

  • Tuition waived (The fees of mandatory insurance and accommodation are not included. Students need to pay both fees by themselves.)
  • Monthly stipend will be offered upon budget availability and qualification of students.

Accommodations
Students need to pay for fees required for living in NCHU dormitory per semester (about 5 months): Basic fees for one semester, including electricity, public cleaning, etc. around NT$14,000/Male Dormitory (US$466) and NT$12,000/Female Dormitory (US$400).

* Please notice that Students will be located different dormitories every semester. The price we provide is for your reference. The Division of Student Housing Service will provide the updated prices.

Insurance
Exchange students must have insurance while at NCHU. If you have overseas emergency medical insurance from your own country, please bring it with you (must be in English). If not, students must pay own insurance fee during registration process. For more information, please visit here

Osaka University-Wide Incoming Exchange Programs April 2020

The International Student Affairs Division of Osaka University coordinates four university-wide exchange study programme (iExPO, OUSSEP, FrontierLab and Maple) and applicant must choose one. Please find the details on Table 2, 3, 4 & 5. There is no April intake in Maple programme. Restrictions may apply for students from school-level, discipline-specific partners.

iExPO

iExPO students will accepted in a school or graduate school of Osaka University to take courses in a specific major or do postgraduate research under the guidance of a faculty member.

FrontierLab

FrontierLab is an academic research internship in science and technology and therefore, it is very unique as a long-term exchange study programme. Participants will become a student member of a research group in one of Osaka University's internationally renowned science and technology fields.

OUSSEP

This program has been designed for undergraduate students in their 3rd or 4th year from overseas partner universities across the globe. Participants are offered Japanese language classes and lecture courses taught in English called “International Exchange Subjects” or CIEE courses.

Maple

In the Maple Program, students are encouraged to compare and contrast Japanese language and culture with those of their home countries. For this program, a Level N4 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test or the same level of Japanese proficiency is required and students who are in the 3rd year or higher in an undergraduate school are accepted.

  • Active student of UNAIR (Bachelor and Master Student);
  • Completed minimum 2 (two) semester(s) at UNAIR
  • Strong academic performance (cGPA > 3.00)
  • Highly fluent in required language (English: TOEFL iBT 80+ / IELTS 6.0+) (Japanese N1 or N2 for iExPO, FrontierLab, Maple: N4)
  • Committed towards the program upon nomination

  • Transferable credits (please consult with Department and Faculty)
  • Tuition fee waived

  1. An official academic transcript (in English)
  2. Health certificate (medical check-up) no longer than 2 months prior to the submission date (could be submitted after the internal screening announcement)
  3. English or Japanese proficiency score records (TOEFL IBT/IELTS/JLPT). TOEFL Prediction are not accepted.
  4. Scanned passport
  5. Study Plan (400-500 words)

  1. Students must fill online internal screening form and upload required documents by 26 September 2019
  2. AGE UNAIR will review all application after the mentioned deadline
  3. AGE will contact shortlisted candidates for further application process
  4. Shortlisted candidates submit Health certificate (medical check-up) no longer than 2 months prior to the submission date (could be submitted after the internal screening announcement)
