“Winter Seminar on Human Security Development and Energy Science” is co-organised by the Graduate School of Energy Science (GSES) of Kyoto University and the ASEAN University Network-Kyoto University (AUN-KU) Student Mobility Program toward Human Security Development. It is designed for undergraduate students to study the concept of Human Security Development (HSD) and Energy Science. The main theme of this seminar is energy science, which is an important issue for Human Security Development. The participating students are expected to expand and deepen their knowledge on human security development and energy science with the prospect of exploring solutions to technological, socio-economic and political issues, focusing on the Asian region.

Eligibility

Criteria and eligibility

  • Undergraduate students from AUN member universities.
  • Applicants are required to have a consistently good academic record in the previous academic year and a good command of English.
  • English Test Certificate (TOEFL/IELTS). ELPT from Pusat Bahasa UNAIR is acceptable for this application.
  • Commit to all aspects of the program upon the nomination.
  • Be physically and emotionally capable of completing the programs.

Costs

Participants are required to pay a nominal participation fee and the cost of their transport and food as detailed below. Kyoto University will provide accommodation.

1. Participation fee: JPY 10,000

This fee includes field studies, and other necessary expenses during the seminar.

All participants should pay this fee in cash in JPY on the first day of the seminar.

2. Participants are also required to organize and pay the following costs:

(1) A round-trip flight ticket

(2) Travel expenses between the airport (e.g. Kansai International Airport, Osaka International Airport (Itami)) and Kyoto.

(3) Fees related to visa applications

(4) Travel insurance

(5) Cost of meals

3. Kyoto University will reserve a hotel for all participants. (Accommodation costs are covered by the program)

Program Benefits:

  • The 15 applicants as selected by the committee of the program will be eligible for a scholarship from JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization). The amount of this scholarship is JPY 80,000 per person (tentative).

However, the following are not covered in the program benefits:

  • Round trip Airfare + Airport tax
  • Visa fee
  • Health Insurance
  • Living Cost (Food, Etc.)
  • Personal Expenses
  • other expenses occurred prior, during, after that related to the program

Required documents:

  1. Application form (typewritten only)
  2. References letter
  3. An official academic transcript (in English)
  4. English proficiency score records (TOEFL/IELTS)
  5. Copy passport
  6. Study plan/ description of academic interest ( 2nd form), 3x4 -colored photos (with blue background) taken no more than six months in polite attire, one of which should be attached to the application form.
