The 2017/2018 Chinese Government Scholarship Application is open for application as from today.

  • Ten (10) places for general or senior scholar/undergraduate/master's/doctoral programs
  • Full scholarship

*Does not include international travel expenses.

Eligibility

  • be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good
    health.
  • be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate
    programs;
  • be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s
    programs;
  • be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;
  • be under the age of 45 and have completed at least two years of undergraduate study when applying for general scholar programs;
  • be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs.

Required Documents

  1. Application Forms for Chinese Government Scholarship (Only English or Chinese are accepted for the online application). The Application Form will be created automatically after the correct filling. The link is http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or www.campuschina.org and agency number (For Indonesia) is 3602. Instructions of the online application is in the attachment.
  2. Notarized highest diploma (photocopy): Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in the languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
  3. Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
  4. A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English. (A minimum of 200 words for undergraduates, 500 words for non-degree students, and 800 words for postgraduates).
  5. Recommendation letters: Applicants for graduate programs or senior scholar programs must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
  6. Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own works. Applicants for fine arts programs must submit a CD of their own works which include two sketches, two color paintings and two other works.
  7. Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.
  8. Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form which should be filled in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant). Applicants with Admission Letter from designated universities should enclose the letter in the application package.
    • The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded from: http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or the attachment.
    • The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
  9. Applicants with valid HSK Certificate should enclose it in the application package. NOTE: The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in duplicate). No application documents will be returned. The incomplete application document will neither be evaluated, nor be accepted.

Time Frames

February 2017 to March 31th 2017

Applicants submit their online application (Indonesian Agency Number is 3602), contact their favorite Chinese universities, and send all paper documents (in duplicate) to :Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Surabaya, Jl. May. Jend. Sungkono, Kav B-1/105, Surabaya 60256 (delivery in person will not be accepted). Please mark "Chinese Government Scholarship Application" on the envelope.

March 1st to April 2nd 2017

After reviewing all application documents, Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Surabaya sends Award Letters to qualified candidates for Chinese Government Scholarship (applicants who are not on the list of candidates will not get noticed).

April 1st to April 23th 2017

Candidates can contact their favorite Chinese universities with the Award Letter, and send pre-admission letters (once available from the target universities) to Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Surabaya.

Note: The Pre-admission Letter from a Chinese university is not a necessary application material. Applications enclosed with the Pre-admission Letter will be sent directly to the host universities for placement confirmation. Applications without the Pre-admission Letter will be sent to universities to go through admission procedure. For applicants without the Pre-admission Letter, Chinese Scholarship Council cannot assure the host university will be one of the preferences of institution, since the capacity of the universities and the eligibility of the applicants will also be considered.

April 24th to April 30th 2017

Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Surabaya sends all applications to Chinese Scholarship Council for final review.

May 1st to July 31th 2017

Chinese Scholarship Council confirm the candidates' applications; Scholarship winners get everything ready for studying in China.

What to Prepare: A project or challenge you face in your work promoting peace and dialogue, and an open mind

TechCamp is a U.S. Department of State initiative aimed to connect community and youth leaders from across the YSEALI Network and civil society organizations with local and international technology experts and trainers to help you and your organization communicate most effectively with your network and your community. We are confident that you will leave the TechCamp better prepared to advance your efforts in promoting peace and tolerance and strengthening regional cooperation.

TechCamp Thailand will be a hands-on, highly interactive two-day event where you will interact with world-class trainers through a series of training and brainstorming sessions. These interactive sessions will also allow you to collaborate and share best practices and challenges with your peers in the YSEALI Network, civil society organizations, and experts from across Southeast Asia and around the world. Our expert trainers will work with you to discover and use new and exciting technological tools in an effort to develop joint solutions for peace. You will focus on concrete steps to expand your technological capabilities and network to promote messages of peace and tolerance, focusing on inter-religious dialogue and the promotion of cross-cultural understanding. Our hope is that you will build lasting relationships with other YSEALI Network and civil society members to help you in your endeavors following this TechCamp.

In this highly collaborative and interactive environment, we will explore ways that you can dig deeper into challenges that you face in promoting peace and tolerance, such as improving interfaith dialogue, promoting social media for religious leaders, and connectivity and digital access in rural areas. A portion of the Tech Camp will also focus on building positive messages and tools for families in the region to prevent radicalization within their family and community. Singapore Management University (SMU) are proud to present the Global Summer Program 2017 and Internship with SMU Lien Centre for Social Innovation. Here the following programs description:

Internship with SMU Lien Centre for Social Innovation Application deadline: 7 April 2017

We would like to share an exciting opportunity at the Lien Centre for Social Innovation (LCSI), housed at SMU. For a program that lasts 8 weeks, we have a total of 6 positions available spanning Research, Innovation Design, and Editorial/Communications/Social Media. These are unpaid positions, so students will have to locate their own funding. However, LCSI is setting aside a small budget for 1 or 2 qualified applicants from the Southeast Asia region, so we hope that it is an encouraging factor for potential candidates who might be concerned about the cost.

A. Summer Associate (Research) program duration: 8 weeks, 12 June to 4 August 2017
Support Provided:

  • Introduction to case-study writing
  • Mentoring support throughout internship from Research Fellow

Associates’ duties include (but may not be limited to):

  • Conduct targeted design research into user segments and needs.
  • Work collaboratively to define a problem and user group with which to iterate prototyped solutions.
  • Utilize human-centred design principles and tools to make as much progress as possible toward a prototype of a new social innovation.
  • Steward partnerships and relationships with all stakeholders in a responsible, respectful, and mutually beneficial way.
  • Produce a design brief that documents all findings and lays out a pathway for future teams to implement the solution identified. 

Support provided:

  • Mentoring and guidance by the Centre’s staff
  • Embedded in network of social innovators at SMU and potential selected partners
  • Community of peers working in different capacities within the Centre
  • Support from Centre staff on logistics, including arrival, housing, etc.

Benefits of the internship:

  • Get involved in an innovative project and gain practice operating on the cutting edge of social change
  • Enhance your design research and innovation skillsets
  • Get exposed to the national and regional social innovation landscape

SMU will be looking for all candidates to have:

  • Keen interest in social innovation and the Southeast Asia region
  • Degree/coursework/experience in social innovation / entrepreneurship, design research, human-centred design, and/or one of the issue areas identified above.

C. Summer Associate (Editorial/Social Media) program duration: 8 weeks, 12 June to 4 August 2017
Associates’ duties include (but are not limited to):
Social Media Associate

  • Assisting with the management of LCSI’s web presence, especially Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. Familiarity with different social media platforms and previous experience in social media management preferred
  • Creating and supporting campaigns, and producing engaging social media content
  • Assisting with editing and updating the Centre’s website
  • Producing video materials for social media platforms; video-editing and closed captioning skills strongly preferred
  • Providing support to the team during events

Editorial Associate

  • Organizing and researching projects and summarizing written material
  • Transcribing interviews and fact checking
  • Basic copyediting and proofreading to ensure style consistencies, in keeping with LCSI house style and/or Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition)
  • Image sourcing and permissions clearance
  • Administrative tasks, e.g. issuance and filing of writer agreements, updating of author database & compilation of contributor mailing lists, overall schedule management
  • Communicating with vendors (e.g. photographers, designers, printers, etc.) at various stages of the production process

Support provided:

  • Content management experience of the Centre’s social media accounts and publication
  • Mentorship from experienced programme managers and editorial consultant

Benefits of the internship:

  • Enhance your writing/copy-editing and research skills
  • Exposure to the regional social innovation landscape
