UNAIR signed partnership with Macquarie University, Australia

Delegate from Universitas Airlagga (UNAIR) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Macquarie University, Australia on Tuesday, (10/2) at ruang sidang pleno, management office of UNAIR. Vice Rector for planning, development, partnership, and information systems, Prof. Soetjipto represented UNAIR, and Deputy Vice Chancellor for International, Prof. Jim Lee represented Macquarie University for the MoU signing.
The MoU signing marks the first step of both university's partnership. UNAIR's commitment as a University to be academically distinguished, and high commitment towards community empowerment become one of the interesting points which attracts the delegate from Macquarie University.
During the first official visit by the delegate from Macquarie University to Indonesia, Prof. Jim Lee mentioned, "Macquarie is one of the few universities in Australia which obliges theirstudents to participate in community service as part of its academic program. Both UNAIR and Macquarie have the same philosophy in this. We are aiming to become 'university of service and engagement'"
On the same occasion, Prof. Soetjipto also emphasizes UNAIR’s vision to be a world-class university, therefore, we are aiming to establish more partnerships with numerous universities abroad to achieve our vision.
“In that regards, we also hope that the partnership will not be just the signing of MoU. After this, we have to discuss further collaborations that we can build in the future.”
The MoU signing also followed by discussion with delegates from faculties in Macquarie University and delegates from faculties in Universitas Airlangga, such as Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Social and Political Science, Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Psychology. This meeting also attended by several alumni of Macquarie who became a lecturer at Universitas Airlangga.
The discussion that lasted for nearly two hours brings a possibility to start student exchange and also double degree program that can be held between the universities. Universitas Airlangga also describes to delegates about AMERTA Program which is the program for the foreign students who want study at Universitas Airlangga. Joint research program can also be developed in the future.

Delegasi Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) kembali menandatangani Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dengan Macquarie University, Australia, pada Selasa, (10/2) di ruang sidang Pleno. Pihak UNAIR diwakili oleh Wakil Rektor III Prof. Soetjipto, sedangkan delegasi Macquarie University diwakili oleh Deputi Vice Chancellor bidang internasional, Prof. Jim Lee.
Penandatanganan MoU ini menandai langkah awal kerjasama kedua universitas tersebut. Komitmen UNAIR sebagai perguruan tinggi yang unggul dari segi akademik, dan komitmen yang tinggi terhadap pemberdayaan masyarakat menjadi poin penting yang menarik bagi perwakilan Macquarie University.
"Macquarie adalah sedikit dari beberapa universitas di Australia yang mewajibkan mahasiswanya mengikuti community service sebagai bagian dari program akademiknya. Kita memiliki filosofi yang sama. Kami menginginkan untuk bisa menjadi 'university of service and engagement,” ujar Prof. Jim Lee yang menyebut kunjungan tersebut adalah kunjungan resmi pertama delegasi Macquirie ke Indonesia.
Dalam kesempatan tersebut, Soetjipto menegaskan visi UNAIR untuk menjadi world-class university, sehingga kerjasama dengan berbagai universitas di luar negeri akan terus digalakkan untuk mencapai visi tersebut.
"Oleh sebab itu, kita tentu berharap tidak hanya sekadar penandatanganan MoU. Setelah ini kita harus mendiskusikan kolaborasi apa yang bisa kita bangun ke depan,” ujar guru besar Fakultas Kedokteran ini.
Dalam kesempatan tersebut Macquarie University membawa beberapa orang delegasi dari beberapa fakultas yang ada di universitas tersebut. UNAIR sendiri juga membawa serta beberapa perwakilan fakultas antara lain, Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya serta Fakultas Psikologi. Turut pula hadir beberapa alumni Macquarie yang menjadi dosen di UNAIR.
Dalam diskusi yang berlangsung selama hampir dua jam terbuka kemungkinan akan dimulai program pertukaran mahasiswa hingga double-degree yang bisa diselenggarakan antar universitas. UNAIR juga menjelaskan tentang program AMERTA yang dikhususkan untuk mahasiswa asing yang ingin belajar beberapa saat di UNAIR kepada delegasi yang hadir. Program penelitian bersama juga terus dikembangkan ke depannya.

The Indonesian Scholarship and Research Support Foundation (ISRSF) invites talented Indonesians to participate in the Foundation’s History Essay Competition. The goal of this competition is to recognize the work of Indonesians interested in history and to inspire young Indonesians to become historians. 

Guidelines
► Who is qualified to enter the competition?
• All Indonesian citizens with a strong interest in history.
• You hold either an S1 or S2 degree as of the end of 2014.
• You are 35 years old or younger at the time you submit your essay.
► What can you write about?
• Any subject or period in Indonesian history from 1800 to 2000.
• The focus can be on a social, economic, political, cultural, or ideological topic.
• You can focus on individuals, groups, movements, trends, ideas, organizations, or any combination of these.
► When is the deadline?
• Essays must be submitted online to ISRSF no later than 30 November 2014 at midnight (WIB).
► What are the criteria for winning?
• Originality, clarity, coherence, use of sources, and the quality of the writing.
► Other guidelines?
• Essays must be written in English and carefully edited for content, spelling, and grammar.
• Essays must be non-ficton, based on research, and be 2,500 words or less.
• Essays must be written and edited by the same individual (no outside help).
• Each writer can submit only one essay for this competition.
• Essays must be new, original, and written specifically for this competition.
• Previously published essays, whether in print or online (in any form), will not be accepted.
• All sources (primary or secondary) used in the essay must be fully and properly cited. All direct quotes must appear in quotation marks.
• ISRSF will scan all essays using plagiarism software that can detect any material previously published in books, articles, or available online.
• Essays should have a title. The author’s name should appear under the title. Avoid using headers and footers.
• Essays must be submitted in Word .doc or .docx format. Use 12 pt Times New Roman font. PDFs will not be accepted.
• Margins should be set to 1” on all sides. Pages should be numbered.
• ISRSF reserves the right to publish the winning essays and name the winning writers on its website.

Panel of Judges
All essays will be read and judged by an independent panel of Indonesian and international historians. The panel reserves the right not to award a prize if no essay qualifies. The panel’s decisions regarding prize winners are final.

Awards
• Based on the decisions of the judges, IRSRF will award first, second, and third prizes in the amounts of Rp. 10 million, Rp. 8 million, and Rp. 6 million, respectively.
• Prize winners will also receive an award certificate from ISRSF and will be featured on the Foundation’s website.
• Prize winners are automatically eligible to be interviewed by ISRSF for a prestigious Arryman Fellow award.
• No one currently affiliated in any way with ISRSF can submit an essay.
