Workshop by Queen's University Belfast

Surabaya, Indonesia --- On Monday (24/02), Universitas Airlangga hosted a workshop by Queen's University Belfast. Presented by Prof. Margaret Topping, an Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor & Dean of the Graduate School of Queen's University Belfast, the workshop discussed about "Researchers as Leaders". It was intended for students and lecturers alike who would like to improve their leadership skills with regard to their status as academicians.

The workshop was commenced with a typical question, "What makes one a good leader?" and "What is essentially a good leader?". From those two questions, Prof. Topping explained about how leadership skill is very much necessary throughout the process of research, hence it would be easier if a researcher already possessed such quality from the very beginning. Throughout the session, there were lots of discussions involved, mainly about what good leadership looked like in the eye of both students and lecturers. Prof. Topping also encouraged students of Universitas Airlangga to pursue postgraduate studies and briefly explained about scholarship program to Queen's University Belfast.

University of Vienna Researcher Visit to Universitas Airlangga

Surabaya, Indonesia — On Wednesday (26/02), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) welcomed Dr. Stefan Kutzenberger of University of Vienna. The purpose of Dr. Stefan’s visit was to conduct collaborative research with lecturers from the Faculty of Humanities. The research itself discussed about creative thinking in literature that can be implemented in the academic environment. Dr. Stefan considered the research trend nowadays, quoting that while science, technology, mathematics, and engineering researches are indeed important, researchers should not disregard the fact that conducting research related to art was also important.

Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, the Vice Rector for Academic, Student and International Affairs, added that the research area commonly found in Universitas Airlangga was not only focused on one research topic, but it had seemed so because it was more common for researchers to incorporate one topic in a multidisciplinary manner or co-related it with different research topics. And despite research trends nowadays leaning more towards engineering and science, she reasoned that Universitas Airlangga had conducted multiple researches in art and humanities. Highlighting that statement, she later introduced Universitas Airlangga's international programs, specifically AMERTA, as well as the possibility for a research collaboration under university funding scheme and LPDP scheme.

Dr. Dian Ekowati, the Head of Airlangga Global Engagement, also added that Universitas Airlangga had implemented a community outreach program last year, under the collaboration with ASEA-UNINET by inviting partner lecturers, in which the University of Vienna was also part of the consortium members. The meeting later ended with a contented note from both sides.
