Hiroshima University Visit to Universitas Airlangga

 

 

 

 

On Thursday, March 16 2017, Universitas Airlangga held a meeting that invited Prof. Nishitani Hajime, the Vice President (International) of Hiroshima University and some representatives from Universitas Airlangga, lead by Prof. Djoko Santoso dr., Ph.D., K-GH., Finasim. This meeting was held in Management Office, Campus C Universitas Airlangga.

Universitas Airlangga is set to reach at the top 500 in the university rankings by 2020 and this meeting is a good chance fro Universitas Airlangga to learn from Hiroshima University as they are at number 297 among universities in the world. This agenda of this meeting were to discuss further collaboration in education and research between Universitas Airlangga and Hiroshima University, potentials to send lecturers for higher education in Hiroshima University.

In this opportunity, Prof. Nishitani explains that it is important that we set our focus to world ranking, but we have to bear in mind that to increase our quality of education is more important. If we have improved our quality of education, our desired rank will come to us automatically. He also gives explanation about ‘3+1 Prgram’, one of Hiroshima University’s programs. The program is for final-year undergraduate students who wish to finish his/her thesis in Hiroshima University with the assistance of its professors. This program also facilitates them to pursue their master degree in Hiroshima University. In this meeting, Hiroshima University promised to have a teleconference to discuss about some academic cooperation such as staff/student exchange, and joint research. In July, Unair’s chancellor is planned to visit Hiroshima University for follow-up visit.

 

 

 

Strategic Meeting with UNICEF

On Tuesday (21/3/2017) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) received delegation visit from United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF). In this occassion, UNICEF brought seven representatives with Ms. Karin Hulshof as UNICEF Regional Director. Meanwhile, UNAIR were represented by Dr. Junaidi Khotib as Vice Rector IV, Prof Hery Purnobasuki as Acting Vice Rector III, Dr. Nyoman Anita as GELIAT coordinator, Dian Ekowati Ph.D as The Head of IOP Unair, the Deans from several faculties, and GELIAT volunteers.

This meeting aims to discuss the implementation of UNICEF and Republic of Indonesia cooperation to advocate the children’s rights in accordance with United Nation’s Sustainbale Development Goals. As one of UNICEF’s partner in East Java, UNAIR supports UNICEF’s programs through a movement entitled GELIAT which concerns to the health of mothers and children in Surabaya. Through GELIAT, UNAIR’s effort in reinforcing UNICEF’s mission as well as its partnership with UNICEF are expected to be sustainable. 

UNAIR Students joined the 9th Global Culture Festival


Muhammad Saud, one of the international students of Universitas Airlangga joined The 9th Global Culture Festival (GCF) on 20-21 March 2017 hosted by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). This event aimed to introduce travel, arts and Indonesian culture to any international community and introduce the culture of various countries in the world to Indonesian, especially Yogyakarta people. Its theme was Enviromental Sustainability and Cultural Awareness for Peace and Equality"

Each of the participating countires occupied a stand that would exhibit their country's typical food, decoration, art and culture information and tourist attraactions. The event was followed by one International Day Festival where there was an International Parade, starting from GOR UNY-Colombo Road - Gejayan Road - Mataram Ditch to the Faculty of Engineering UNY.

EURIE-EURASIA Higher Education Summit 2017

On March 22-24, 2017, delegations form Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih M.Si; Director of Academic Affairs, Dr. Santi Martini; Vice Dean-Faculty of Public Health, Irfan Wahyudi, Ph.D; Coordinator for International Program IOP, Dewi Sartika, M.Ed; Coordinator for International Program Development-Directorate of Academic Affairs participated in EURIE 2017 in Istanbul, Turkey. The delegations met with over 2.500 attendees from 53 countries who value internationalization and sustainable professional development. Delegations from UNAIR had an opportunity to generate new partnerships with other participants and to discuss current challenges facing higher education. 

The host for this event, Istanbul Aydin University, also invited UNAIR to participate in International Education Week: Exchange of Experience at Florya Campus. In this occasion delegations from UNAIR was promoting the international programs that offered for international students (AMERTA Program & Airlangga Summer Program). Hopefully, UNAIR can expand the collaborations and elevate the number of international students from Turkey!
